What is the CPF?

The CPF (Personal Training Account) is a government initiative in France that applies to all individuals who are currently employed or have previously been employed. It allows workers to accumulate training rights throughout their professional career.

Initially counted in hours since 2015, these rights are now expressed in euros per hour. The CPF remains active even in the case of a change in employment status, including for public sector workers.

What is it used for?

The CPF allows you to attend training courses with different objectives:

  • To obtain a diploma or certification,
  • To apply for a higher position requiring more advanced skills,
  • To complete a career assessment,
  • Or to prepare for entrepreneurship.

How do you accumulate CPF credits?

There are two categories of employees who can earn CPF credits:

  • Full-time employees receive between €500 and €800 per year (24 hours per year), up to a maximum of 120 hours.
  • Part-time employees accumulate €500 per year, based on the proportion of hours worked annually, until reaching a 120-hour threshold. Beyond that, they earn 12 hours per year, with a maximum credit of €150.

Note: Certain individuals are eligible for an increased amount of €800 per year (up to €8,000). This includes people without a CAP or BEP diploma, or those with a diploma not recognized by the French government, as well as individuals with disabilities.

How can I check my CPF balance?

To check your CPF balance, go to www.moncompteformation.gouv.fr.

Haven’t activated your account yet? No problem! You can simply create one using your French social security number and an email address.

When can I take my training course?

You may take a training course during your free time or during working hours.

  • During free time: You do not need to inform your employer.
  • During working hours: You must notify your employer and get their approval beforehand.

How to find the right training?

On your MonCompteFormation portal, you’ll find a list of eligible training programs.

You can access qualifying and certifying training options. A free career guidance service is also available to help you plan your professional development.

Funding by OPCO:

The OPCOs (Skills Operators) are the official funding bodies. They will verify whether your selected training is eligible for coverage using your CPF credits. Depending on your assigned OPCO, they will contact your chosen training provider to handle payment.
